Open Air Project is working to transform empty business signs around New Orleans into spaces available to artists for public installations.

These empty signs can be found along nearly every main street in New Orleans.  As advertising space, their purpose is to attract our attention. But as empty spaces, they act as reminders of what is no longer here. This project intends to activate these unused public spaces by inviting local and visiting artists to create site-specific installations that will engage the community. Rather than representing what has been lost to the neighborhood, these spaces will bring a renewed sense of life and excitement to the street.

The initial round of installations will open November 1. See the contact page if you have any questions, want to propose an installation for the next round of installations, or have a property that you would like included.

This project is supported by a generous grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation and the Arts Council of New Orleans.
